Note* This game goes down to 5ms difference - although people can theoretically hear differences in sounds of less than 1ms, hearing 10ms difference or less in the context of a full on track with varied rhythmic components like this should be considered excellent. Max level is 30!
This game is designed to test and improve your ability at recognising slight changes in tempo between two competing audio elements, in this case, piano and drums! You'll hear a recording and need to decide if the piano track comes in too early (ahead of the drum beat, or 'rushing'), too late (after the drum beat, or 'dragging') or is perfectly on time with the drums.
The game will begin with a 100ms difference, and progressing through the levels reduces the gap. For earlier levels with larger gaps only 'rushing' and 'dragging' will be options, however from 35ms and lower the game may play a track where the piano is on-time, neither too early nor too late.
Importantly, this is measured by moving midi components in the recordings, and virtual instruments do have their own individual attack transient times - I've tried to make this reasonably exact, but because of this we'll include a 'Reference - Play On Time Track' which you can use as a perfect 0ms difference reference to calculate if the piano in each questions' tracks are comparatively ahead or behind.
Lastly, as the game progresses, some levels will play the same ms difference to make sure you're not just getting lucky!
