How to Play

A majority of modern Western music uses the Major scale as its harmonic foundation, therefore recognising the tonality, or 'sound', of the Major scale is a hugely important skill. This game is designed to help you learn to identify that Major scale sound. You will hear two scales played in sequence: Scale 1 and Scale 2.

One of the recordings is a Major scale, and one is not - your job is to identify which one is! You can play a reference C Major scale anytime to recalibrate your ear. Adjust settings anytime via Game Settings.

Information

The vast majority of Western music uses the major scale as its harmonic basis. Because of this, and our continued exposure to Western music, we are often able to recognise the sound or 'tonality' of the major scale.

Recognising the major scale is a very useful skill, and something we can practice here. Compare the two scales and choose the correct one. You can use keys 1 or 2 to replay scales, C for the reference scale, and left arrow / right arrow to answer.
